Honeysuckle delivers first foal and prepares for another high-profile mating
The 13-time Grade 1 winner is expecting a foal and has plans to visit another sire later this year. The mare will be bred with Blue Bresil, a sire known for producing impressive jumpers. Blue Bresil has sired 20 black type-winning jumpers, including Constitution Hill, Blue Lord, Good Land, Inthepocket, L’Autonomie, Mick Jazz, and Royale Pagaille. The decision to breed with Blue Bresil was made because of his success and the availability of the stallion. Blue Bresil stands at Glenview Stud and Molony, the racing and bloodstock manager, is excited about the prospect of this mating.
On another note, there is an update regarding Honeysuckle, another successful racehorse owned by Kenny Alexander. Honeysuckle is currently at Alexander’s New Hall Stud in Scotland and is expecting a foal from Walk In The Park. She is due to give birth in early April and will then be transferred to Rathmore Stud in Limerick. Molony recently saw Honeysuckle and reported that she is in good form and her pregnancy is progressing well.
Honeysuckle had an impressive racing career with 17 victories, including wins at four consecutive Cheltenham Festivals. She also defeated Epatante in a race a year later. Although she suffered her first loss in the 2022-23 season, she had a triumphant ending when she won the 2023 David Nicholson Mares’ Hurdle. Honeysuckle, a daughter of Sulamani, was bred by Geoffrey Guy at The Glanvilles Stud in Dorset after being purchased for €110,000 following a mares’ maiden win in Dromahane.
