94 horses entered for the 2024 Randox Grand National, with 61 trained in Ireland
The Grand National, a horse racing event at Aintree, is set to have a record number of entries this year, with 65 per cent of the total entry being represented by Irish horses. This is a significant increase compared to just three years ago when it was 41 per cent. The defending champion, Noble Yeats, is among the 94 horses entered for this year’s race, and the renowned trainer Gordon Elliott will be bidding to secure his fourth victory in the event. The cost of entry for the National is £950, with an additional £3,900 required if the horse is left in at the two scratchings stages and confirmed five days before the race on April 13.
Eligibility criteria include having run in at least six chases, being placed in a chase over 2m7½f or further, and being allotted a rating of 130 or more by the BHA handicapper. The maximum field for this year has been reduced to 34 from 40 in order to protect the welfare of racehorses and jockeys. The weights for the 4m2½f contest will be unveiled at a ceremony in Liverpool two weeks before the event. Racing Post is offering the best deals for the Grand National.
