Anticipated dry conditions for Grade 1 weekend event at Leopardstown with a mix of soft and yielding ground
Saturday’s racing at the course is expected to have temperatures around 12C with a possibility of light rain after the races. The clerk of the course, Lorcan Wyer, mentioned that while the forecast indicates dry conditions, there may be some light rain on Saturday evening into Sunday. Since the last rain at the track, which was about three millimetres the morning of the last meeting, the track has settled down. Since the abandoned meeting on January 6, there has been approximately half an inch of rain, so the conditions are not expected to soften.
The temperatures are in the low teens, and the track has been watered to maintain good ground, with noticeable improvements over the week and lots of fresh ground by the hurdles. At Musselburgh, conditions are good to soft, with soft patches in places as it prepares for its Scottish Cheltenham Trial weekend. Despite the forecast for strong winds, no change in the condition of the track is expected. Clerk Rory Innes mentioned receiving five millimetres of rain on Wednesday and a forecast of only one millimetre for the following day.
