Fast-improving Dear My Friend wins Listed event for Middleham Park as ‘the wheels are firmly back on’
Trained by Charlie Johnston, the four-year-old recently returned to the track after a 129-day break, winning at Newcastle on New Year’s Day. He crossed the finish line a length and three-quarters ahead of the favorite, Nine Tenths. This marked a second Listed win for Dear My Friend, and Prince, the director of operations for Middleham Park, is optimistic about the horse’s progress. He mentioned that the horse has shown improvement since undergoing wind surgery and gelding, and that he has been quicker to come into form than expected, with a versatile racing style.
After finishing 13th of 14 in last year’s Derby, Dear My Friend may now be targeted for the mile handicap on All-Weather Championships finals day at Newcastle on Good Friday. Prince also noted the potential to qualify for bonuses and incentives at the track. Overall, Dear My Friend’s recent performances show promise for the future, with the potential for continued success in upcoming races.
