King Of Steel Primed for Exciting Four-Year-Old Campaign with Prince of Wales’s Stakes as Key Target
Varian recently visited County Westmeath to check on his stable star, housed at Robson Aguiar’s yard near Mullingar. He reported that the horse is in “fantastic shape.” The horse, King Of Steel, had a successful 2023, including a win in the Champion Stakes at Ascot in October with Frankie Dettori.
The horse also won the Group 2 King Edward VII Stakes at Royal Ascot and finished third in the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes at the same track. Varian’s main summer target for King Of Steel is expected to be the Prince of Wales’s Stakes back at Ascot in June. Most recently, King Of Steel finished fifth behind Auguste Rodin in the Breeders’ Cup Turf at Santa Anita in November, where he had to race from a wide draw in stall nine.
Varian expressed satisfaction with the horse’s condition during his recent visit to Robson’s place and plans for the horse to return before the end of the month. Varian looks forward to seeing him race again. Additionally, it seems there is an unrelated advertisement from Racing Post offering promotions and deals.
