Frankie Dettori’s Flying Win Boosts His Search for Kentucky Derby Ride with 26-1 Upset in Grade 1
The rider, who postponed retirement to have a full season riding in America, recently achieved an impressive feat at Santa Anita by recording six consecutive wins last weekend. This display of talent served as effective advertising ahead of the Kentucky Derby, which is scheduled for three weeks from now.
This victory marked the jockey’s first Grade 1 win at Keeneland, and he expressed the significance of this achievement, stating, “Keeneland is a very important meet.” He further emphasized the importance of selling himself to the Kentucky audience for the upcoming Derby.
English Rose, from the Godolphin stable, was the favorite for the race, having previously secured a convincing Group 2 victory in the Balanchine at Meydan in February. This was only her fifth career start and her first at the top level.
Jockey Buick commented on the race, noting that the pace was slow and expressing his confidence in the experience gained by the horse.
