Golden Slipper winner Shinzo, an exceptionally talented two-year-old, joins Coolmore roster as a blue-blooded addition.
The Chris Waller-trained Shinzo has garnered attention as the country’s best two-year-old, following a victory in the Slipper. The impressive colt is the progeny of the renowned Snitzel and the Blue Diamond and Slipper-placed mare Samaready. This catapulted him into contention for the most coveted juvenile event in Australia, the Pago Pago Stakes demolition. According to Coolmore Australia principal Tom Magnier, “Snitzel is a four-time champion sire of two-year-olds and one of the greatest stallions in modern era Australia.”
Shinzo, being Snitzel’s best two-year-old and best-bred son, is set to stand at stud. Snitzel’s first Golden Slipper-winning colt, Shinzo, will stand for an introductory fee of A$55,000 in the Hunter Valley. This is part of Coolmore’s roster, which also includes another son of Snitzel in Best Of Bordeaux, runner-up in the 2022 edition of the Slipper. Shinzo secured a Timeform rating of 120 with his Slipper performance, the highest mark for a two-year-old in 2022-23 and the biggest figure ever posted by a juvenile by Snitzel.
Shinzo was not auctioned publicly, but rather syndicated privately as a yearling amongst Coolmore’s colt’s partnership clients. His dam, Samaready, was acquired by Tom Magnier for A$1.8 million at the 2020 Inglis Chairman’s Sale. The colt has demonstrated elite level talent as a juvenile and has an impressive pedigree. Shinzo’s outstanding performance has been attributed to his great temperament, natural gifts, and desirable stallion prospect.
The horse’s syndicate is committed to supporting him fully in his early years at Coolmore.
