HWPA and Racing Media Academy collaborate to enhance diversity and opportunities in the sport of racing.
The HWPA offers membership to cadets for free and provides a half-price offer to new members under 25. This membership ensures support from the association throughout their career and an opportunity to submit an entry in the Derby Awards each December. Cadets undergo a learning week at Newmarket and then engage in a six- to eight-week placement at major racing media companies, a program funded by the Racing Foundation, Godolphin, and Spotlight Sports Group.
The partnership also involves the cadets in the Derby Awards program and Racing Media Week, contributing to online content for the awards. Apiafi emphasized that the partnership establishes the RMA as a key gateway to the media sector of the sport. The HWPA is positioned as the umbrella organization for various individuals in the sport’s diverse media channels.
Emphasizing diversity and inclusion, the aim is to make the sport more reflective of society and attractive to a wider range of future fans. The only requirement to become an RMA cadet is a willingness to learn, opening the doors to a diverse range of individuals.
