Irish Racecourses Struggle with Frustration Caused by Wet Weather, Described as a Nightmare
Racecourse manager, Eddie Scally, expressed frustration at the delayed start to the season due to track conditions and relentless rain. He mentioned the extraordinary amount of rain and the resulting waterlogging of the track, causing an unprecedented nightmare in preparing for races. Scally highlighted the financial impact on various stakeholders and emphasized the need for proactive decision-making to minimize adverse effects on them. He also stressed the importance of being realistic about the situation and the need for improvement in the decision-making process.
With a hopeful look at the forecast, Scally anticipated a return to normality for upcoming race meetings at Gowran Park, Wexford, and Downpatrick. However, Kilbeggan’s scheduled fixture will not take place following a request from the Kilbeggan Racecourse Committee.
