Joseph O’Brien has ambitious plans for American Sonja after Longchamp victory
American Sonja won a race at Listed level last June, with a length and three-quarters lead over her rivals. O’Brien praised the horse’s performance, noting that she has matured since last season and appeared to enjoy the added distance.
They are considering entering her into the Pretty Polly at the Curragh and a race for fillies at Saint-Cloud, as well as potentially racing in America. Owner-breeder Jeffrey Hobby expressed confidence in the decision to move Sea Of Thieves, citing that the horse seemed to struggle mentally after a collision at Ascot last year.
They hoped that a new environment would help the horse overcome this phase, and it appears to have been successful, with Sea Of Thieves seeming much more settled. It was noted that Cracksmans seem to perform well in France, and the decision to race American Sonja there was due to the belief that it would suit her.
The owner referenced Mario’s successful partnership with some friends and the strong performance of Cracksmans’ horses in France.
