Maximus and Corach Rambler are joint-favorites for the Grand National after the drift, according to bookmakers.
Corach Rambler was widely believed to be the top contender for the £1 million race set for Saturday, having placed third in the Cheltenham Gold Cup a month earlier. Trained by Lucinda Russell, the ten-year-old’s odds for the Grand National varied between 5-1 and 7-1 after the final field confirmation. I Am Maximus, favored by BetVictor at 7-1, has gained popularity in the past 24 hours, now sharing the top spot with Corach Rambler, who has seen a slight weakening in odds following the declarations. The Irish champion trainer, in contention to win the British championship for the first time, has only achieved a National win once in his esteemed career, with Hedgehunter in 2005.
The joint-favorite, I Am Maximus, secured victory in the Irish Grand National at Fairyhouse last season and is a Grade 1 winner. Another contender, Brassil won the National with Numbersixvalverde in 2006 and has been recently seen winning the Mares’ Chase at Cheltenham. Jockey Mark Walsh favors Brassil as his top pick. The mount of Jack Kennedy has seen its odds cut to around 16-1 since the final field confirmation, even being priced at 20-1 with Ladbrokes, while bet365 offers odds of 16-1.
