Richard Johnson
Richard Johnson: “I prefer not to be seen getting out of the car as my hip was so sore I could hardly move” – Racing Post
The term is often used in a polite but not very convincing manner to describe an older member of a group who is perceived as being past their prime and should have retired long ago. It is commonly used to refer to aging jump jockeys who have experienced the harshness of the sport and exhibit signs of wear and tear, including a noticeable limp. Richard Johnson may have been the subject of such comments and it’s possible that he wouldn’t be taken aback by them.
