Blackmore’s Faith in Ain’t That A Shame Rewarded with Thyestes Win – Rachael Shines
The De Bromhead family has a strong connection with Gowran Park’s main event. Harry de Bromhead, who passed away, won with Grand Habit in 1992, while 25 years later, Henry de Bromhead achieved the same feat with Champagne West in 2017.
Ain’t That A Shame had participated in challenging handicap chases and came close to winning a major prize several times. Notably, he finished as a close second in the Munster National and was narrowly beaten in the Paddy Power Chase and the Grand National. Despite these near misses, the horse showed promise, which was finally realized in the recent race.
Rachael Blackmore, on board the 14-1 shot Ain’t That A Shame, made a remarkable move to secure third place after tracking the leader for much of the race. Ultimately, her mount surged ahead to claim victory, despite facing a strong challenge from Glengouly and Angels Dawn.
The trainer, impressed by Blackmore’s decision to ride Ain’t That A Shame over another horse, Shantreusse, praised her courage and belief in the horse. Despite doubts and a disappointing race at Navan, the team was delighted with the outcome.
Blackmore received a three-day ban for whip use, and another jockey, Michael O’Sullivan, received a five-day ban after his horse fell at the last.
