Dan Muscutt Aims for Group 1 Victory at Cape Town Met Card in South Africa on Saturday
Muscutt, born in Zimbabwe, comes from a family of jockeys. His father, Peter, has had successful training stints around the world and currently trains in Durban. Muscutt has provided rides for his family and Snaith’s runners and expressed his pleasure in being able to return to South Africa. He has ridden in Cape Town before, spent time with Brett Crawford and Stephen Page, and had a return to South Africa a few years ago.
After riding in the 2021 Cape Guineas, Muscutt praised the Cape Guineas winner Double Superlative, noting his classy back form and expressing confidence in his performance. He also mentioned the tough competition in the upcoming race.
As an experienced international jockey, Muscutt won the 2022 Criterium de Saint-Cloud on Dubai Mile. He has another Grade 1 mount in the World Pool Cape Flying Championship. Rio Querari, a previous top-level winner of Snaith, is owned by a syndicate including John and Jill Warner. Muscutt expressed hope for a good run and discussed the capabilities of other horses he will be riding.
In the Grade 3 Cape Stayers, Muscutt will be riding One Way Traffic, who has good form and stays the trip well. He also mentioned Quasiforsure, a consistent horse for his father.
British jockeys Frankie Dettori and Ryan Moore have recently ridden in the Met, and ITV’s Rishi Persad will also be a part of the local broadcasting team.
