Albert Bartlett secures £290,000 acquisition of Mt Fugi Park, maintaining unbeaten record in impressive fashion

Bought for £290,000 after winning an Irish point by five lengths, the six-year-old horse trained by Jonjo O’Neill had a successful debut under rules at Ffos Las in October. He continued his winning streak over hurdles, making it two for two with a half-length victory over previous winner Alcedo. Winning rider Jonjo O’Neill Jr commented on the horse’s performance, stating that despite only running in a point and a maiden hurdle, he still showed signs of inexperience. The horse had missed some time since October and the ground conditions were testing, so the strategy was to ensure he finished the race rather than trying to win from the start. O’Neill Jr also praised the horse’s movement, noting that he had to prompt him earlier than expected but he responded well and pulled away, with the runner-up also being considered a good competitor.

Mt Fugi Park, the horse in question, was among the 63 entries for the Grade 1 Albert Bartlett Novices’ Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival in March. As a result, his odds were shortened to 33-1 from 50-1. O’Neill Jr mentioned that the horse’s plans for the spring season would be determined by the mark he received after the recent victory. One possible race that could suit him is a three-mile event at Haydock in February, but the plan is to not stretch him too much this year.
