Bookies are hesitant about Mirazur West’s Cheltenham prospects after his first hurdle victory
Mirazur West dominated the race under jockey Mark Walsh, displaying excellent jumping skills to secure a victory over Al Gasparo by 11 lengths. Tragically, D B Cooper suffered a fatal leg injury during the race. Mirazur West had previously finished as a runner-up to King Of Kingsfield in a Grade 1 Royal Bond hurdle and showed improvement in his recent win. Walsh commented on the horse’s progress and ability to jump, emphasizing the need to keep him relaxed.
Following the win, Mirazur West’s odds for the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle were adjusted to 16-1 by William Hill while he remains a 33-1 chance for the Baring Bingham at the Cheltenham Festival. Meanwhile, Spindleberry delivered an impressive performance in the 2m4f mares’ maiden hurdle, displaying excellent jumping and stamina to beat True Testimony by nine lengths. Despite initial odds of 20-1, she was steadily backed and ultimately sent off at 7-1.
The race also saw the unfortunate fall of Mount Gable, while the victory was secured by Rusheen ridden by Danny Mullins for trainer James Dullea.
