Conor O’Farrell ready to return from shoulder injury after a long road

The 34-year-old jockey sustained a shoulder injury in a fall at Market Rasen in July. He had hoped to return at the start of the jumps season but nerve complications required surgery three months after the incident.

He mentioned, “It’s been a long road and it’s a bit surreal to be finally coming back.” The jockey shared that he had dislocated his right shoulder at 19 and recovered in about five weeks.

However, this time around it was more complex with nerve damage, requiring surgery. O’Farrell aims to continue his successful streak after achieving nine wins this season before the injury.

He had partnered with 36 winners last term and also had Grade 2 success with the horse Wakool. During his time off, the jockey engaged in various events and received sponsorship from three different companies, a unique occurrence in his opinion.

He acknowledged the need to rebuild connections with trainers and owners due to his extended absence from the sport. After being off for almost seven months, O’Farrell has returned to riding.

He felt at home again after his first proper week back in action, expressing his confidence in regaining his form.
