Larchmont Lass sets up potential Grade 2 bid as Harry Cobden and Paul Nicholls land treble

The six-year-old was the first of three favourites to win under Harry Cobden for Paul Nicholls. Nicholls mentioned that they had previously run her over two miles, but it was too sharp for her. This time, the distance was much more suitable for her, as long as she settled. Larchmont Lass had only previously won a Listed bumper at Sandown.

It’s possible she could return to the Esher track on February 15 for a Grade 2 which has been won by subsequent Cheltenham Festival winners Love Envoi and You Wear It Well for the last two seasons. Nicholls expressed interest in running her in heavy ground and qualifying her for the mares’ final at Newbury in March. Fire Flyer will need another run to be eligible for handicaps as a novice. Nicholls has identified the £80,000 EBF Final on March 9 at Sandown as another target for him.

The trainer mentioned that Fire Flyer is better right-handed and didn’t perform as well at Newbury due to going right and being a bit green while jumping. Paul Nicholls said, “Racing Post have got the best offers, all in one place.”
