Mares’ Hurdle at Cheltenham Festivals: A Source of Disappointment Since 2008, or Not?

Mares’ Hurdle at Cheltenham Festivals: A Source of Disappointment Since 2008, or Not?

It’s a mystery how it managed to slip past the turnstile security without being strip-searched back in 2008. Since then, it has managed to stay and hasn’t been gotten rid of.

In 2021, the security was even more relaxed when the Mares’ Chase arrived without an invitation, but that’s a topic for another time. This week, the Mares’ Hurdle is up for discussion.

What should be done about it, ladies and gentlemen? Any ideas?

One suggestion is to keep it as it is but move it to Uttoxeter on Midlands National day. Another proposal is to turn it into a 0-150 handicap, excluding the most talented females, which would also apply to the Mares’ Chase.

Others seem to want it gone for good, wanting the three-day festival back.
