Willie secures nine winners as Closutton dominance continues to exceed expectations
He won five races on Sunday and four on Saturday, with a level par round of nine for the weekend. His victories in all eight Majors barely raise an eyebrow anymore, as they are expected.
However, his performance this weekend was still extraordinary. Winning all Grade 1 races and adding the Grade 2 mares’ bumper made it a total of nine wins, an astonishing feat.
He has the horses, the owners with the money to afford them, and the champion jockey Paul Townend riding them, but he’s still the one in charge. There was immense pressure this weekend, and five wins would have been considered a failure.
