Aintree’s Mildmay course forecasted to turn soft and heavy in some areas with 8-10mm of rain expected today.

Yesterday, half of the expected 20mm of rain fell, resulting in more challenging conditions over the regulation fences. The National course remains at soft, heavy in places, but may change soon. The going was updated to its current description at 7.45am, with GoingStick readings provided for each course. The showcase meeting is scheduled to begin on Thursday, and horses racing on all three courses will need a premium on stamina.

There have been significant rainfalls, and the conditions are unpleasant due to the windy and wet weather. A further 10mm of rain is expected today. However, there’s a chance of largely dry weather from Thursday to Saturday with occasional showers, particularly on Thursday night. On the National course, there is a possibility of changing the description to predominantly heavy, depending on the incoming weather.

The threat of nearly 20mm of rain yesterday did not fully materialize, and it’s uncertain what the future weather will bring. Over the spruce fences, the going is currently heavy from Becher’s Brook to the twelfth obstacle, including around the Canal Turn.
