Brighterdaysahead makes a comeback at Mersey Novices’ Hurdle after Cheltenham setback

Brighterdaysahead, a five-year-old mare, suffered a shocking defeat at the Cheltenham Festival, finishing behind Golden Ace in the Mares’ Novices’ Hurdle. However, she bounced back in style, pulling clear of stablemate Staffordshire Knot in her next race. Jack Kennedy, her jockey, expressed his thoughts on her performance, praising her talent and ease of victory. Kennedy was puzzled by Brighterdaysahead’s previous defeat at the festival, but was relieved at her quick turnaround.

He also mentioned that the race was messy, and they did not have a strong pace. Despite his initial doubts, Kennedy emphasized his satisfaction with her performance. Trainer Willie Mullins’ Ile Atlantique, backed heavily before the race, finished fifth behind stablemate Jimmy Du Seuil. Another competitor, Bugise Seagull, trained by Charlie Longsdon, secured a third-place finish.

Brighterdaysahead’s impressive victory led to a cut in her odds for future races, making her a strong contender for upcoming events. As a result of her commanding victory, Brighterdaysahead’s odds were adjusted for next season’s Mares’ Chase and the Turners Novices’ Chase, as well as the Mares’ Hurdle. This marked a significant shift in her positioning for future races.
