Veteran Abaya Du Mathan assists in ending Gary Hanmer’s challenging spell at Racing Post
After Abaya Du Mathan’s victory on Thursday, trainer Hanmer reflected on the recent struggles the horse had faced. He mentioned that the team had been in a slump since the end of September and despite various tests and examinations, they couldn’t pinpoint the cause of the downturn in form. This had been disheartening for the team, but he expressed hope that they had overcome this difficult period. Abaya Du Mathan, who was bought for £4,000 from David Pipe in October, proved to be a lucrative acquisition as he has already earned more than £14,000 since joining Hanmer.
The trainer expressed his satisfaction with the horse’s performance, stating that the recent victory has put the horse in a good financial position, bringing joy to the owners. The jockey, Robbie Dunne, also had reason to celebrate as the victory marked a 170-1 double for him, having earlier guided Bective Abbey to a first win under rules in division one of the maiden hurdle. This achievement reflected a successful outing for Dunne, capping off a memorable day for the team.
