Nigel Twiston-Davies to team up with son Willy as trainer’s license granted for next season

Nigel Twiston-Davies is an experienced trainer in jump racing, with a career spanning over four decades. Throughout his career, he has achieved notable victories, including winning the National with Earth Summit (1998) and Bindaree (2002), as well as the Cheltenham Gold Cup with Imperial Commander (2010).

Nigel’s son, Willy Twiston-Davies, has been working closely with his father for a long time. They have always supported and assisted each other, working in tandem. As a result, they have a strong working relationship with no arguments. Due to their successful partnership, it has been discussed that Willy will join Nigel as a trainer. The necessary paperwork needs to be completed, which can take time. Nigel expresses pride in his dedicated team, describing them as a “family.”

According to Nigel, there is no specific timeframe for when the transition will occur. However, Willy has completed his training modules, indicating his readiness for the role. Nigel emphasizes the complexity of the paperwork required for such a transition but remains hopeful that it will happen in the future.

Currently, the Twiston-Davies stable sits in sixth place in the jump trainers’ standings. They have achieved 57 winners and a total prize-money of £768,733 before the start of Tuesday’s action.
